TURIN, Italy — Fiat (which ownes Ferrari & Maserati) will use Chery engines in its China-produced cars, but eventually these powertrains will appear elsewhere, including possibly in Italian models. The new ACTECO engine family was introduced a year ago and includes every size and shape, from a tiny 0.8-liter to a 4.0-liter V8.

"Chery is a young and modern company with a solid technical background. I am glad to welcome this further step in our strategy of targeted alliances," said Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Auto. The Fiat deal goes even further and from 2009 Chery will produce and distribute Alfa Romeo and Fiat branded cars built at the Wuhu factory as well as a new range of models under the Chery brand name.
